Guiding Principles of Parks Department
1) In fulfilling our responsibilities to the public, Board of Supervisors, County Executive Office, departments and divisions we commit to the following guiding principles:
Mission and Performance Focused – The active management of our performance and the use of management information tools and performance measurements guide the pursuit of our mission through continuous improvement.
Customer Service – Aggressively maintain dialogue with our customers to determine whether we are meeting their needs and expectations, and to guide the future development of our parks because partnership is a two-way relationship with shared rights and responsibilities, we will honestly communicate our limitations, and what our expectations are of our customers.
Creativity, Innovation and Efficiency - We commit to on-going improvements in service delivery through the application of individual and group creativity and continued technological innovation.

The Ventura County Parks Department will relentlessly pursue an improved the quality of life for the citizens of Ventura County and other visitors by continuously improving the quality of our facilities and services, while protecting the natural resources and beauty of our parks and historic areas.
3) Department Goals
- Acquire, develop, improve and maintain quality recreational facilities that meet the recreation needs of the County of Ventura.
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, and monitor beautification and safety of County of Ventura recreation property and facilities.
- Preserve and protect significant biological resources and historical facilities.
- Pursue an equitable and reliable method of financing the planning, development, operation and maintenance of recreation facilities.
- Develop and improve customer service by defining ourselves as service providers and developing a public relations marketing plan.
- Improve communication with our customers.
- Achieve self-sustainability of the Park Enterprise Fund through the addition of new revenue generating services, and the efficient and effective operation of existing ones.
