Become a Ventura County Park Host or Community Center Host. It is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself and your family. Camp free for a minimum of 180 days at any of 12 sites in exchange for volunteer services.
Looking to visit and explore Ventura? Want to stay near friends and family somewhere in the area? Interested in learning new skills or trying a new outdoors experience? Becoming a Ventura County Park Host is one of the easiest, most exciting ways to do these things and more.
Hosts receive
Ø Free Camping with electric and water hookups (some locations have gray water hookups)

Ø Greet campers, answers their questions and orient them to the park and area
Ø Set example for others by keeping host site clean and neat
Ø Be accessible to campers for comments and complaints
Ø Understand and explain – not enforce – park rules and regulations to campers
Ø Help maintain campground – pick up litter, clean campsites after park visitors check out, replenish restroom supplies and keep the bathrooms clean
Ø Check windshields for passes to ensure park fees are paid
Ø Contact park staff and other law enforcement personnel about emergencies
Ø Other projects and assignments based on park needs and hosts’ skills and interests
Community Center Host responsibilities

Ø Above items, plus
Ø Responsible for facility reservations calendar
Ø Answer walk-in/telephone inquires from the general public
Ø Open and close main gate and facility as required
Ø Maintain facility in a clean and ready state
How hosts are selected
Hosts are selected on a first-come, first-served basis; they must provide their own RV or camping unit. An extra vehicle is strongly recommended for personal transportation. Selection criteria include experience in camping, prior campground or park host service, working with the public, length of time willing to be hosts and how well skills match park needs. No salary or stipend is provided. Minimum of 20 hours a week of service is required.
