If you are a Resident or Employee of Ventura County, check out “Call It Quits!”.

This is Ventura County’s FREE Quit Assistance Program. You will have access to free counseling services, free Nicotine Replacement Therapies (e.g. the Patch), and reimbursement for prescription medication!

Anyone can qualify for the services provide by the California Smokers’ Helpline.

If you are pregnant, or if you are raising young children, see additional information on Ventura County’s Prenatal Care Guidance Program.

Want to Quit Smoking? Need Help?

Most smokers say they want to quit, and with the right tools they can quit successfully.

Our Mission is to provide quit assistance and support to Ventura County Residents and Employees by:

  • Presenting tools for a successful quit
  • Supplying free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
  • Educating family and friends on how to best help the quitter

We provide:

  • Options for free quit assistance counseling – it is your preference, with over 15 programs to choose from
    • Group classes
    • One-on-one assistance
    • On-line assistance
    • Telephone counseling
  • Free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
  • Reimbursement for pharmacotherapy

You will be eligible to receive free nicotine replacement therapy and/or reimbursement for pharmacotherapy if you meet the following requirements:

  1. You are a Ventura County Resident or Employee
  2. You can show proof of active enrollment in one of our “Call It Quits” approved counseling programs

Call It Quits! Quit Assitance Program

What is the California Smokers' Helpline?
It is a non-profit organization that provides free cessation services to tobacco users who want to quit. The Helpline is operated by University of California, San Diego and funded by the California Department of Health Services through Prop. 99, the 1988 Tobacco Tax Health Protection Act.

Who can call the Helpline?
Anyone in California who would like help or information on quitting tobacco, whether you are a current smoker, former smoker, or a friend or relative who would like to help a smoker.

What kind of services might I receive through the Helpline?

  • One-on-one telephone counseling
  • Informative booklets to help you quit on your own and remain tobacco-free
  • Referrals to local quit assistance programs and classes
  • Opportunities for Participation in various tobacco-related research projects
  • Special Assistance for teenagers, pregnant woman, and/or users of chewing tobacco

What Can I Expect When I Call?
A Helpline professional will ask you a few questions to assess your needs, and then offer you a choice of services. If you are ready to quit and want counseling, they can arrange for you to speak to a trained quit assistance counselor at your convenience.

Prenatal Care Guidance

Loving your baby starts with prenatal care!

Give your children a healthy start to life by providing them and yourself with a smokefree environment from the womb to the home.

Ventura County’s Prenatal Care Guidance (PCG) program encourages you to quit using tobacco and to protect your children and yourself from secondhand smoke.

For free assistance to quit smoking, and to learn how you and your children can avoid secondhand smoke, call (805) 201-STOP or email the Ventura County Tobacco Education and Prevention Program at tobacco@ventura.org.

We also recommend the “Make Yours a FreshStart Family.” This is a quit assistance program for health care providers to help counsel pregnant and parenting mothers.
