CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION AWARDS

Ventura County’s Best Private and Public Projects and Programs of 2012-2013

The VENTURA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS will present awards on Tuesday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m. for Earth Day 2013 recognizing the best projects and programs that address climate change in Ventura County.

Many organizations, large and small, public and private, have responded to the risks of Climate Change by voluntarily implementing measures to reduce their carbon footprint. (Nomination Form click here).

AWARDS ARE PRESENTED AND NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES:

• Organization Carbon Footprint Reduction: Projects that reduce carbon emissions or other Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GGE). Quantification of greenhouse gas reduction using standard protocols is encouraged but not mandatory.
• Planning or Research Project: Plans and projects that will assist in future reduction of GGE and lead to greater understanding the effects of climate change and how to address the effects.
• Public Outreach/Education: Projects to increase awareness of global warming and actions that organizations or individuals can take to reduce GGE and address climate change. Consideration given to the number of persons reached, effectiveness of message, and usefulness as a model for other outreach and education projects.
• School/Youth: Projects judged on extent of participation, originality, and amount of energy, water, or resource use reduction achieved (calculation not necessary).
• Sustainable Business Practices: Any combination of measures resulting in energy, water, or resource use reductions. Based on level of effort, workforce participation, and creativity, as well as overall reduction of energy, water, and resource consumption.
