Pursuant to California Government Code, to file a timely claim with the County of Ventura, it must be filed the Board of Supervisors within six (6) months of the date of accrual for personal injury or personal property damage.
The Clerk of the Board accepts service of legal documents on behalf of the County of Ventura, County Special Districts (i.e. Watershed Protection District, Fire Protection District, etc.), and County employees being served in their capacity as a County employee.
Legal documents include, but are not limited to the following: claims, summons, complaints, cross-complaints, amended complaints, subpoenas, subpoenas duces tecum (subpoena of records), writs of mandate or motions.
Documents are received via personal service or mail and all are entered into the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors database index.
The Clerk of the Board does not keep any original documents in their office. Claims are forwarded to Risk Management. Legal Documents (Summons, Complaints, Subpoenas) are forwarded to County Counsel.
The Clerk of the Board also accepts service on behalf of cities who have designated the County as its agent for service of process of tax related issues pursuant to R&T section 5149.
