118 Safety Task Force

The non-freeway portion of State Route 118 is primarily a two-lane roadway that crosses the county from east to west, traversing rural, urban and agricultural areas. However, in recent years, this particular stretch has seen a dramatic increase in commuter and commercial traffic resulting in several high profile and many times fatal injury collisions.

The formation of the 118 Safety Task Force is in direct response to constituent demand for the need to gather public safety, transportation, agricultural and business stakeholders together to develop innovative strategies that will reduce deaths, injuries and traffic congestion associated with increased use of the highway. It is through the combined ideas, efforts and skills of these professionals that we hope to find short term fixes, but more importantly, long term solutions to make the highway a safer place.
