Disclosure Statement by the County of Ventura's Floodplain Manager
The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM) and Flood Insurance Study Report (FIS) shown on this website were prepared by FEMA as part of the National Flood Insurance Rate Program. The DFIRM and FIS Report were issued by FEMA to the County of Ventura on September 16, 2005 and are considered "preliminary" until formally adopted by FEMA. These maps do not identify all areas subject to flooding, particularly from local drainage sources of small size.
The public is invited to review these maps and provide comments on the map's technical accuracy to Development & Inspection Services Division, attention: Floodplain Manager, 800 S. Victoria Avenue/#L-1600, Ventura, CA 93009-1600. A full scale copy of the DFIRMs and FIS Report are available for review at the County of Ventura Public Works Permits Counter at the same address.
City/County limits shown on the DFIRMs are based on the best available data at the time of publication in September 2005. Because changes due to annexations or de-annexations may have occurred after the DFIRM was published, map users should contact appropriate community officials to verify current City/County limit locations. Flood elevations shown on the 2005 DFIRM and FIS Report are based on the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Older FIRMs and FIS Reports were based on the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
These DFIRMs reflect more detailed and up-to-date stream channel configurations than those shown on older FIRMs for this jurisdiction. The floodplains and floodways were transferred from the older FIRMs and may have been adjusted to conform to these new stream and channel configurations. As a result, the FIS Profiles and Floodway Data tables, which contains authoritative hydraulic data, may reflect stream channel distances that differ from what is shown on the DFIRM. Boundaries of the floodways were computed at cross sections and interpolated between the cross sections. The floodways were based on hydraulic considerations with regard to the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program. Floodway widths and other pertinent floodway data are provided in the FIS Report for the unincorporated County of Ventura.
The County of Ventura will use the "best information available" to evaluate proposed development projects within floodplains in accordance with FEMA's Floodplain Management Bulletin 98-1, which includes the proposed floodplains and floodways shown on the 2005 DFIRM and FIS Report.
