Environmental Services

The Environmental Services section provides environmental compliance guidance and services to District, Division, and County citizens as required by federal, state, and local regulations and policies.

Their duties include:

  • Compliance with regulatory requirements for capital improvements from project concept through implementation. Regulations include the California Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, California Department of Fish and Game Code, federal and state endangered species acts, and many others.
  • Develop and implement cost effective mitigation for District projects.
  • Balance flood control and environmental stewardship through planning at the watershed level.
  • Ensure consistency with the County General Plan policies.
  • Share information with the public and regulators.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding environmental issues at all stages of capital and private projects.
  • Work to streamline permitting and regulatory procedures.
  • Develop applications and administer grants for District projects.

at Environmental Services:

Santa Clara River Weir Field Downstream of Highway 101

The Ventura County Watershed Protection District is proposing to construct four bendway weirs and rock rip-rap slope protection. The project would prevent further erosion of the southern bank of the Santa Clara River adjacent to a decommissioned landfill. The District is issuing a Notice of Intent to Adopt Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (PDF 113Kb) and and is seeking written public comments on its Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (PDF 3.85 Mb). The public review period begins on Monday March 30 and ends on Wednesday April 29, 2009.  See appendicies to DMND: A; B; C; D; E.

 

North Simi Drain Channel Retrofit at the Union Pacific Railroad/Metrolink Crossing

The Ventura County Watershed Protection District is proposing to modify the junction of its North Simi Drain flood control channel with a City of Simi Valley storm drain lateral. The modification would increase effective storm flow capacity and reduce the existing backwater effect, thereby reducing flooding. The District is issuing a Notice of Intent to Adopt Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (PDF 86Kb) and and is seeking written public comments on its Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (PDF 1.88Mb). The public review period begins on Monday March 23 and ends on Wednesday April 22, 2009.
