Volunteers Make the Difference
Volunteers at the Ventura County Medical Center have something very special to offer - themselves.
By donating their time, energy, and expertise, hospital volunteers provide extra services that supplement the basic functions of the hospital's professional staff - services which add to the comfort, care, and peace of mind of each patient regardless of race, creed, color, or economic status.
Why Volunteer?
VCMC Volunteers not only give, they receive too! In volunteering they have a chance to:
- Learn new skills
- Develop new interests
- Make new friends
- Enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping others
How Do Volunteers Help?
No matter where their efforts are given, VCMC Volunteers provide valuable service to their own community:
Enhancing patient care
This might include assisting admitting or discharging patient, passing food trays, bringing ice water or delivering flowers, answering call buttons, providing a variety of reading material from our book cart, supervising our play room, or simply visiting a patient in need. These are only a few of the many opportunities that are available.
Fundraising
Volunteers operate the hospital Gift Shop and some are also involved in special fundraising activities throughout the year that benefit our hospital.
Organizational support
Some volunteers choose to help our various hospital department offices and clinical departments. They use their clerical, computer, and organizational skills to increase support in these areas.
Community services
Some volunteers are involved in a variety of events and programs that are sponsored by community organizations that directly benefit our hospital, such as health fairs, flu clinics, blood drives, etc.
No matter what their ages, our best volunteers have the following traits
- Interest and enthusiasm
- A positive, cheerful attitude
- Dependability
- A willingness to learn new skills and polish up on the old ones
